A bard sat next to a roaring fire, her bailset(kinda like a guitar) sitting in his lap. She gently strummed the strings and then paused to tune it. her long blonde hair was tied back with a ribbon and her loose forest colored cloths fell about her. Her emerald green cloak wrapped about her. She tunned the bailset a bit more and then her voice, clear, clean and sweet rang over the surrounding hills.
"Lay down
Your sweet and weary head
Night is falling
You have come to journey's end
Sleep now
And dream of the ones who came before
They are calling
From across the distant shore
Why do you weep?
What are these tears upon your face?
Soon you will see
All of your fears will pass away
Safe in my arms
You're only sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home
And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
All souls pass
Hope fades
Into the world of night
Through shadows falling
Out of memory and time
Don't say
We have come now to the end
White shores are calling
You and I will meet again
And you'll be here in my arms
Just sleeping
What can you see
On the horizon?
Why do the white gulls call?
Across the sea
A pale moon rises
The ships have come
To carry you home
And all will turn to silver glass
A light on the water
Grey ships pass
Into the West "
As the last words faded soft green eyes turned down to look at the sleeping lad next to her. His features mirrored his mother's own. The lad being the only family left to her was her treasure. She smiled and placed her bailset aside and lay back, her head resting on her saddle. The stars overhead winked in and out, but only one star stood out in the sky, the North star the one she was heading for. Finally sleep closed her eyes.
When the sun came up Alasse got up and began to pack up and saddle the horses. Sylvan was still asleep, stretched out beneath his blanket. She'd let him sleep for now, the boy had been through a lot the last few days. Alasse made a meager breakfast and woke her son. He awoke with a yawn and brushed his strawberry blonde hair out of his eyes. he got up and rolled his bed roll up. "Good Morning mother." He said softly to Alasse.
