WolfSong: The Legend of Altehrei

Yes. So. Kyte has written a story called WolfSong. It's about a race of wolven shape shifters and a half-bred boy, Kia, who is destined to lead them into war against the enemy clan. This novel is finished; for those of you who'd like to read it, pm me or email me at [e-mail]

However, I'd like to meander through the past of the Second Realm, where 90% of WolfSong is placed. Which will also give me room to expand and lurk through my novel's background. I'd like to do this with the 'beginning pack'; how the clans started.

A bit of background:

There is a boundary line in the heart of Nevada, a gate that separates the two realms of Earth. The First Realm, the world as we know it -- and the Second Realm, home of all things supernatural. This is the birthplace of dragons and demons, a world where the species can live without our technology. Mainly, the home of the Shifts, a shape-morphing race of wolves.

The Second Realm is vast. There are miles and miles of areas for each herd, each pack, each gander of new beasts. The races have settled score with one another to keep in their own territory and won't back down if a trespasser tries to make trouble on unrightful land.

Among the lands, the wolves -- Shifts -- own a large part of it. In one form they are nearly indistinguishable from humans, other than odd clothing types and natural hair and eye shades that would make the punkiest of humans jealous. And in another form, a form in which they learn to change to even as puppies, they are wolves of any color, any shade, some of them plain, some of them having odd markings; just depends on the wolf.

These wolves live in a pack of thousands, normally peacefully, until a young male named Katar joined the group. A rogue himself, he'd been living with a group of feline Shifts. When he came to ask approval and acceptance, half the pack agreed and half the pack disagreed. The ones who dared to overrule the Elders' whims were threatened to be Exiled, and instead, they broke off into their own clan, separating the Shifts for once in several decades. The ones who strayed off were lead by the bold Shinza, a female with dreams of alpha status, and the clan was called Kanzi. Katar made his way to the alpha status as well in the other group, a neutral pack named Altehrei. It is impossible for Kanzi and Altehrei to actually get along, as the leaders are so different.

And this is where the RP will begin. Whether your wolf is in either pack, tis fine with me. We need at least 5 of each ^^ Shinza is open to play, unless no one wants to. My character will be Katar. The others are up to you, completely free reign!! 2 characters apiece ^_^

The medium-sized male trotted over the path, chocolate-hued paws sinking into puddles and splashing mud water up onto his chest and underside. The clouds hung gray overhead, but if it had been sunny, Katar's coat would've gleamed from the rich blond fur on his back, down to the chocolate and black markings on his shoulders and sides, to the mahogany blaze in the shape of a blade down his muzzle. Today, however, it was dreary and his fur hung wet on his semi-muscular frame. Not handsome at all.

Around his neck was a heavy chain choker, a tab of old rope hanging maybe to the middle of his chest bone. Katar grinned slightly. He might've been Shift-bred, but he had been raised in a camp of daemons. They were the ones who'd given them the chain as a gift of recognition. However, when the tri-colored brute had heard about his peoples' common spits, he left his humanesque counterparts for good to travel back home.

And alas, here he was, alpha of Altehrei and enemy of rogue band called Kanzi. Even though he'd come in as a rogue himself, the Elders had allowed him to stay, and he'd proved himself worthy of his title. A proud but calm male, he could and would lead his pack into war if need be. That's just the way it was. That was his responsibility and his alone. Shinza had hers, he had his, and though they came from the same pack, they were different in many ways.

Katar's tail flagged over his back like a husky's might, head up, ears pricking at the sudden sound of footsteps approaching. Out of the bushes popped a head, rust-red with a tan mask, her ears pinned back. Shinza herself slunk forwards, body long, tail and back bristled. Her emerald eyes clashed coldly with Katar's golden gaze.

"What do you want?" The male asked, his told calm but holding a hint of ice.

Shinza merely smirked, giving a snarl as she sat down a few yards away. Katar didn't want to admit it, as she was the enemy, but the three-year-old wolfess held a fatal beauty, an enticing aura around her, though her claws and fangs proved that one shouldn't mess with her.

"You know what I want," she growled, standing then and turning away, looking back over her shoulder at him, her gaze sweeping to his chest, where the chain hung.

Katar lifted his lips and leapt forwards, teeth snapping together where the bitch's tail was, but without another word, she'd raced off with a sharp laugh and he bit only air. Of course he knew what she wanted. Back bristled, he turned and sulked back towards the clan, to make sure the puppies were still there. This would be the second litter Shinza's tried to get ahold of and he wouldn't allow it.

The brute took off at a gallop, ears pinned. She was a sly little wench, trying to keep him occupied. "If one of those pups are missing, I'll rip her in two!" he hissed under his breath, skidding into town. The beta, Salamander, gazed at him uneasily and at his side was a thin, blond fae, shivering against her mate. "No..."

"They ambushed the cave...we had no way to defend ourselves."

"Who did they take?" Katar asked quickly and both wolves lowered there heads. The blond female lay down on the ground, sobbing softly, and he already knew the answer. Both puppies. They were both gone... He threw up his head and let rip a hoarse howl of calling, snarls rippling through the air as he did so. Hundreds of voices answered him back but a moment later, from the shrillest of yips to the gruffest of yowls. "Don't worry," Katar murmured, nudging the beta female. "We'll get your babies back."
