Cain rushed forward into the dark corridor of the Vatican Research Lab. Around him wires wrapped the steel walls. In front of him in the distance was a small rectangular window. Outside he saw the Earth rotating on its axis. Below he saw a hurricane erupt over Japan. The damage was catastrophic, but he didn’t have time to worry about them. Right now, he was more worried of not getting himself and the other scientists killed.
He lifted his MP45 up into the air as he walked quickly across the steel ground. Ok, he thought carefully, there only much faster then you, smarter then you, and of course outnumber you. Cain began breathing hard as adrenaline pulsed through his body. His heart raced and his lungs paced, but he wouldn’t stop until he was well out of sight from this place.
The light above him flickered then turned on, along with the rest of the lights above him. His black tinted visor switched to normal mode off of night vision while he crouched at the sudden change, but quickly reestablished himself and began moving once more.
Cain wore a black helmet with a transparent clear to it. That way everyone could see his ice blue eyes. Below his helmet was a black armored chest plate. His shoulders were covered by armor as well, along with his thighs. Black steel-toed hiking boots covered his feet, and his hands were covered with thin leather gloves. A black sash ran from the stock of his MP45, across his back, over his shoulder, and clipped onto the barrel of his MP45.
He reached the wall with the window. Beside him a scientist fell. He landed on Cain and gripped his shoulders for support. “T-there everywhere,” he said looking back and pointing toward a room. On the scientists chest was a large gash, and he would bleed to death any minute. Cain gripped the man and leaned him up against the wall. He gripped his chest and his mouth chattered rapidly. “Please… Help us…” he said.
Cain peered through his transparent visor. “Don’t worry, that’s why I’m here,” Cain replied calmly. He looked over in the direction the scientist pointed. The room door was open, and blood seemed to puddle outwards from the entryway. “I’ll be right back,” he said to the scientist, but the scientist’s eyes were closed, and his body was lifeless. Cain sighed. Why does this always happen to me? Cain thought standing up, and slowly creeping to the room.
Cain’s eyes peered carefully for any sign of movement, he’d have to react fast if he has any hope of saving these people. His sight was creeping along the room door waiting for its moment. The spring inside was prepared to fire at the right instant it needed to. The trigger sat with his finger resting carefully on it. Cain’s finger was ready to be pushed against the trigger at the very instant it needed to. His brain and eyes functioned carefully to react at the instant the ‘what-ever-it-was’ thing would come out at him.
He foot stepped silently into the puddle of blood that seeped out from the door. He quickly stepped forward placing himself in front of the door. Cain stepped inside quickly shifting around and scanned the room, nothing but blood and corpses. Cain sighed, but as he did a creature from out of no where pounced toward him. It had a long scaly tail, and large claws on its two short hands and long legs. On it’s head was what looked liked a dinosaur head, but only deformed. The creature was what looked like a weirded out Velociraptor. With the creature feet away from him, the lights flickered, then shut off entirely. Instantly the room went dark, and his visor tinted black again and switched to night vision. The creature was gone, disappeared into the darkness. Cain cursed under his breath as he walked out of the room. He lowered his MP45 as he stepped along the corridor once more…
